Palestra Convidada: Reflectarrays and transmitarrays development at IETR (France)

Palestrante: Dr. Erwan Fourn

Data: Quinta-feira, dia 18 de fevereiro de 2021

Horário: 10h00

Resumo: Initiated at the beginning of the 21st century in collaboration with Thales Alenia Space and CEA-Leti respectively, reflectarrays and transmitarrays are now historical activities of the IETR laboratory. These kinds of antennas have the potential to form complex radiation patterns with relative simplicity, low cost, low losses and low profile. This presentation will give an overview of the IETR developments in these fields. Special focuses will be carried out on the development of a specific reflectarray unit cell called Phoenix cell and on the reconfiguration of these high-gain antennas using different methods.

Palestrante: Erwan Fourn was born in Brest, France, in1977. He received the Master degree in Electronics in 2001 and his Ph.D. degree in Electronics in 2004, both from the University of Brest. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Laboratory for Analysis and Architecture of Systems (LAAS-CNRS), Toulouse, France. He is currently an Associate Professor within the National Institute of Applied Sciences (INSA), Rennes, France. His research activities, within the “Institut d’Électronique et des Technologies du numéRiques” (IETR), are mainly focused on the design of reflect-array and transmit-array antennas in one side and bandpass filters in the other side for multi-band and/or reconfigurable applications at microwave and millimeter wave frequencies. He has been involved in more than 12 research projects at the national and European levels and hasco-supervised 15 PhD students, 1 post-doctoral fellow and 9 master students. He has received 2 patents and is the author or coauthor of more than 19 journal papers and 61 publications in international conferences and workshops. He is co-director of the joint-lab MERLIN between IETR and Thales Alenia Space since 2020.
